Pharmacy Technician Training - Online/Hybrid

As a Pharmacy Technician you will help the pharmacist package or mix prescriptions, maintain client records, refer clients to the pharmacist for counseling, assist with inventory control and purchasing, as well as collect payment and coordinate billing. This course meets State certification requirements with 140 hours of online instruction and a 120-hour externship to provide you with a complete learning experience. Please note that class will meet in person for skills labs the last four Saturdays. Must be 18 with a high school diploma or equivalent. 
 

This 20-module program  includes topics such as: the profession of pharmacy, laws and regulations; drug supplement and development; pharmacology, routes of drug administration, prescriptions and drug insurance; community pharmacy; hospital pharmacy; sterile and non-sterile compounding; safety; ethics; infection control and aseptic technique and clean rooms.  
 

Externship: Upon successful completion of the online classroom training, students will participate in a 120-hour externship, where they will hone their practical skills.  Our training partner, Career Training Solutions, has an affiliation agreement with CVS and Walgreens.  To guarantee externship placement, the student should be available 3 full-time business days each week. 

Externship Alternative:  If the COVID19 is still affecting the community at the end of class, the student may elect to sit for the ExCPT exam in lieu of externship. 

Licensure:  For students who successfully complete 260-hours, this program meets the education requirements of the California Board of Pharmacy (Business and Professional Code Section 4202). Students may apply for the pharmacy technician license upon successful completion of the program.  Application fee is $195.

Certification: This pharmacy technician program has been approved by the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCE) and the National Healthcareer Association (ExCPT).  Both certifications are recognized by the California Board of Pharmacy.

Please Note:  If student requests to withdraw from the class it must be submitted in writing to the Community Education Office. A refund will be granted under the following conditions and less the appropriate fees: If received seven (7) days prior to the starting date, the refund amount will be course fee LESS:  $250 Administrative fee. If received prior to the third class meeting, the refund amount will be course fee LESS: $400 Administrative fee.*Plus prorated class attendance and consumable supplies to be calculated. (varies by program; up to $450 depending on classes attended)  No REFUND will be granted after the third class meeting.  Students who are dismissed from the program are not eligible for a refund.  These are intensive programs and we make no guarantee of completion or passage.
