The California Motorcyclist Safety Program Motorcyclist Training Course (CMSP MTC) is designed for the novice rider with no (or limited) street-riding experience. This course includes two classroom sessions coupled with on-cycle skills taught on our outdoor range. You will learn fundamental skills required to operate the motorcycle and progress to street riding skills and strategies. Topics covered include fear, understanding how motorcycles turn, proper cornering strategies, and emergency crash avoidance skills. The course is based on the most current research in rider safety and utilizes modern training methods. Though designed for new riders, any rider that has not taken a motorcycle course will benefit from this clinic. Upon successful completion of the course students will be mailed a DL-389 DMV certificate within ten business days. Motorcycles are provided, and if needed, the helmet. If you prefer learning on a scooter, email us to reserve one. You must attend all sessions and pass to obtain a certificate.

If you will be under 21 years of age on the day the training begins, the cost of the course is $395. To receive the discount, please enter the class code: IMUNDER21 and select 'apply class code'. Age will be verified on the day of the class using the student's government-issued I.D. Any student found to have underpaid will not be allowed to continue until full payment has been received or risk a hold on their DL389 certificate.

Please read: 

Required materials and gear:
  • Bring a valid, government-issued photo I.D. with you to class.
  • Full- or ¾-coverage US Department of Transportation (DOT)-compliant helmet (loaners available*)
  • Eye protection (shatter-resistant preferred)
  • Sturdy, over-the-ankle footwear (Motorcycle-specific recommended. High fashion heels not permitted.)
  • Long-sleeved shirt or jacket (motorcycle-specific recommended)
  • Long, non-flared, durable pants without any rips or holes (motorcycle-specific recommended). Must be long enough to cover the tops of your footwear when seated on the motorcycle.
  • Full-fingered street-motorcycle-specific or leather gloves (mechanics-style gloves, off-road gloves, etc. are NOT allowed.)
  • No one in a California Motorcyclist Safety Program (CMSP) class may display threatening, obscene, or inappropriate messages on clothing or helmets.

    *We offer a variety of helmet sizes ranging from XS to XXL. If you require a helmet size outside of this range, you should plan to bring your own helmet. If you suspect you need a very small or large helmet but don’t own your own helmet, contact us before your class is set to begin.
