The impulse to draw is as natural as the impulse to play, or speak. Anyone can learn to draw. Our studio time will cultivate drawing skills through the direct observation of forms found in nature and provide an introduction to the practice of journaling, to help each participant express their own relationship with the outdoor natural world. In this class, we will sample foundational drawing techniques and apply these skills to the practice of keeping a nature journal. Classes will include structured, functional exercises in a workshop format. Each week, we will layer on additional art elements that may be used independently, or in combination as you expand your practice. Material lessons with focus on dry black & white media and progress into watercolors. Who are these classes for?: "I couldn't draw a stick figure to save my life. But I love spending time in nature looking at the world around me." "I used to draw in a time long past, but I haven't picked up a sketchbook in ages." "I am a very creative person and I would like to develop my skills and incorporate drawing into a more regular routine." If any of these statements sound familiar, then this class may be for you. Drawing is an exercise in observation and discovery of the physical world. No previous art experience is required. Come with curiosity and a desire to learn. All materials will be provided with the class.
