Learn the art of shaping and polishing gemstones in this hands-on cabochon-making class. A cabochon is a stone that has been cut and polished into a smooth, rounded dome with a flat base rather than faceted. You will learn how to cut stones, prepare and mount them for shaping, and polish them to a high-quality finish. Along the way, we’ll explore the Mohs hardness scale and how it guides your approach to working with different materials, as well as techniques used to form and refine cabochons. The goal is to develop the skills needed to create a well-shaped cabochon with a mirror-like finish, ready to be used in jewelry or other craft applications.
