« back to classes page
Every family has stories, memories, and life experiences that deserve to be remembered, but too often those stories are lost with time. Learn how to preserve your family history by recording meaningful conversations with parents, grandparents, and other relatives before those memories disappear. You’ll explore practical techniques for preparing thoughtful interview questions, creating a comfortable and natural conversation environment, and using simple audio or video tools to record interviews with confidence. Strategies for guiding conversations, encouraging storytelling, and capturing personal memories that reflect family traditions, cultural heritage, and life experiences will also be covered. In addition, participants will be introduced to basic methods for organizing and preserving recorded interviews, including transcription, digital storage, and sharing recordings with family members. By the end of the session, you’ll have the tools, strategies, and confidence to begin preserving the stories and voices that make your family history unique. Ideal for genealogists, family historians, and anyone who wants to preserve personal memories and family traditions through oral history.
